In 1988, Gerald O’Brien and fellow friend/keyboardist Steve Sexton, teamed up to form the instrumental duo “EXCHANGE’, as they both shared a mutual interest in Instrumental music as well as TV and Film scoring.  Their first album “Into The Night” was released in 1989 on Passport Records in New York and to this day remains one of their most successful albums.

 

Exchange made it into Billboard’s Top 10 World Music Charts with their highly-acclaimed second album “Between Places” under the Mesa Bluemoon label out of Los Angeles.

Exchange went on to achieve further commercial success with the release of four more albums in the 1990’s, including the hit song “Til the Last Teardrop Falls” featuring Marc Jordan and Amy Sky, which was also cut and released by David Hasslehoff and seen on the TV series “Baywatch”. Another song, “Her Body Makes Vows” was featured in the feature film “Never Talk To Strangers” starring Antonio Banderas and Rebecca Demornay, and was later recorded by Rick Springfield.

Exchange wrote and recorded the soundtracks for the television series “The Legend of Prince Valiant”, (featuring Robby Benson, Tim Curry and Patty Duke) and “Phantom 2040”, (featuring Mark Hamill and Deborah Harry), along with orchestrated theme music for Fox Sports and the Tour de France for CBS. In addition, they have also had their music featured on the Ryder Cup, Baywatch, NFL Super Bowl, the World Series, ABC’s Wide World of Sports, the US Open, the Masters, the Olympics, 20/20, the David Letterman Show, and many more.

Exchange has been nominated for two Juno Awards for best instrumental artist of the year. Their music can still be heard today on numerous television shows and sporting events in the United States, Canada and all around the world.

Exchange produced a brand new CD called ‘Eleven Eleven’ which was released in August, 2012. Look for new releases this year!

GERALD O'BRIEN

 

Canadian-born, award-winning Songwriter/Composer/Producer Gerald O’Brien has successfully spent his career, spanning the past three decades, writing across all genres of music, including an extensive background in television. The versatile O’Brien has written for the hit TV series’ Dr. Phil, Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, Rachel Ray, The Doctors and many other notable events including: the Tour De France, Calgary Stampede, the 1998 Winter Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series, ABC’s Wide World of Sports, the PGA Tour, as well as numerous animated TV series.

​

During his career as a songwriter, Gerald has penned songs for Hall & Oates, Manhattan Transfer, Amanda Marshall, Deborah Harry, Loverboy, The Guess Who, Glass Tiger, Michelle Wright, Martina McBride, Trace Adkins, Ronnie Milsap, and many others. In 2010, he co-wrote five songs on the new Sons of Sylvia CD, entitled “Revelation,” on 19Recordings/Interscope. Three of those five songs were also co-produced by O’Brien. In 2011, he cowrote the Debut single for new Country band ‘Edens Edge’ on Big Machine Records, called AMEN, which reached #18 on BillBoard and was on the charts for 11 months. In June 2012, he co-wrote and co-produced ‘What A Song Can Do’ for Rachel Crow’s (XFactor Finalist) Debut EP. Most recently, he has had string of new cuts, including, RUST & RED by Tim Montana (co-written with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons), FIGHT by Gloriana (Warner Bros), XO with Kelsea Ballerini (Black River Music), DRUNK, by Courtney Cole and 2 songs on the new Ashley Clark CD, produced by Mutt Lange (Capitol Records), including, TO THE MOON & ASS ON THE FLOOR.

O’Brien has received awards for Song of Year by CMPA, SOCAN’s Classic Song Award, while being nominated for two Juno awards (Canada’s version of the Grammy’s).

 

​He has also toured extensively as a keyboard player in several bands throughout North & South America including Klatuu, Zappacosta, Wrabit, Nightwinds, Expresso. Opened up for such acts as Black Sabbath, Rush, Joe Perry,  and more

 

Currently living in Los Angeles, O’Brien also spends a lot of time working in Nashville as well.

STEVE SEXTON

​

Steve Sexton’s work encompasses film soundtracks, producing, conducting, arranging, and songwriting. His eloquent style and passion for composing has lead him to numerous film projects including the latest film “Cut Throat” from Errant Films at this years “Toronto Film Festival” and “The Last Trick” (Directed by Bill Appel from Australia).

 

Steve’s extensive music career has had him working alongside top artists such as Celine Dion, Michael Buble, Bryan Adams, Anne Murray; and top orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Philharmonic working with John Williams.

​

After graduating from Western University in music, Steve began playing in local bands such as the Streetpeople, the Lincolns, and eventually joined such notable bands as Surrender, Tom Cochrane and Red Rider. He worked with Anne Murray for many years as her Musical Director and then met Gerald O’Brien forming the instrumental duo “Exchange.”

​

Steve has won numerous awards and has been well recognized in the film and music industry with four Juno award nominations, an Ampex Golden Reel award, Procan award, a Gemini award nomination, Socan Song of the Year award, and numerous Gold and Platinum records.

​

Steve has been fortunate to work along side other great artists such as Dusty Springfield, Julio Iglesias, Bill Champlain, Jan Arden, Rita Coolidge, and Patti Labelle, and also worked with Jim Carrey on his first feature film called Copper Mountain. He has now released Exchange’s seventh CD called “Eleven Eleven” (along with Gerald O’Brien) August of this year.
